Which countries can enter Indonesia visa-free?

Citizens of 19 countries and territories can enter Indonesia without a visa, through the entry points immigration sets. Singapore permanent residents can too, but only through eight named checkpoints, none of them in Bali, as their route covers the Riau Islands only.[1, 2, 3, 6]

  • Southeast Asia: Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
  • Further afield: Suriname, Colombia and Hong Kong.
  • Added in 2025 and 2026: Turkey, Brazil, Peru, Kazakhstan, Macau and Belarus.

The list changes: six of these nationalities were added from July 2025 on. Check immigration's visa-free list before each trip.[4, 5]

How long can you stay in Bali visa-free?

You can stay up to 30 days. The stay cannot be extended, and you cannot switch it to another visa or permit once you are in Indonesia.[4, 6, 7]

Visa-free entry covers a holiday, business meetings and medical treatment. The visa on arrival gives the same first 30 days but can be extended once, and every visa-free nationality except Macau can take it instead. Overstaying costs IDR 1 million (about AUD 80) a day, as the overstay fine page sets out.[4, 8, 9, 11]

Our rule

If your trip may run past 30 days, take the visa on arrival instead.

A visa-free stay cannot be stretched once you land.

Do Australians need a visa for Bali?

Yes. Australia is on Indonesia's visa on arrival list, not its visa-free list.[1, 8]

The visa on arrival's official fee is IDR 500,000 (about AUD 40) today for 30 days, and you can extend it once for another 30. A rise to IDR 750,000 (about AUD 60) online and IDR 1 million (about AUD 80) at the airport was announced on 12 August 2026, with no start date, so check the fee on immigration's visa page before you pay; the visa on arrival guide tracks it. Get it online before you fly, as in the steps below, or buy it at the airport. A visa agent charges its own fee on top of immigration's.[9, 10, 14]

What do British, American and EU travellers need?

The same as Australians: a visa, usually the visa on arrival. The United Kingdom, the United States and all 27 EU countries are on the visa on arrival list, and none is on the visa-free list.[1, 8]

Whatever your passport, it must be valid for at least six months after you arrive, and UK advice adds two blank pages. Every foreign tourist also pays Bali's tourist levy of IDR 150,000 (about AUD 12).[7, 9, 11]

What do you do before you fly to Bali?

Check your nationality first, then get a visa only if it is not on the visa-free list. Both routes ask for the same passport and ticket.[1, 7, 9]

  1. Find your nationality on the visa-free list

Look for your passport's country on immigration's visa-free list. If it is there, you need no visa for up to 30 days at the entry points immigration sets. The entry points are set separately by the minister, so confirm with your airline or an Indonesian embassy that Bali's airport is one before you fly. You can also fill in a free electronic form on evisa.imigrasi.go.id before you land, to use the automatic gates.[1, 6, 7]

  2. If it is not, get the e-VOA a week ahead

Apply for the e-VOA (electronic visa on arrival) on evisa.imigrasi.go.id or indonesiavoa.vfsevisa.id at least a week before you fly. A visa approved after you land is not valid, so make sure it is approved before you board.[9, 11]

  3. File the free arrival card

Every visitor files the All Indonesia arrival card, free, on allindonesia.imigrasi.go.id in the 72 hours before landing. The arrival guide covers it with the tourist levy.[11]

  4. Carry your passport and onward ticket

Your passport must be valid six months past your arrival, and you need a return or onward ticket. Both are on the list for visa-free entry and for the visa on arrival.[7, 9]

Will Australia get visa-free entry to Indonesia?

Not yet. Australia was still off the visa-free list in October 2026, and in August the proposal had no timeline.[1, 13]

In May 2026 Australia was set aside for more study; no decision was reported by August 2026, and the list on 18 October 2026 still excludes it.[1, 3, 12, 13]

Our rule

Plan on a visa until Australia appears on the official visa-free list.

How do you avoid a fake visa agent?

Type the address yourself: fake visa agents can take your money and supply no visa or the wrong one.[11]

If your passport is on the visa-free list, there is no visa to buy: immigration charges nothing for visa-free entry. A site that sells you a visa-free "permit" is charging for something free.[7]

Our rule

Pay online only on evisa.imigrasi.go.id or indonesiavoa.vfsevisa.id, and at the airport only at the bank counter in the immigration area.

Those are the places immigration's own visa page lists.[9]

FAQ

Do Singapore permanent residents need a visa for Bali?

Yes, if they fly into Bali. Their visa-free entry applies only at eight named checkpoints, such as Batam Centre and Sri Bintan Pura, none of them in Bali. Flying into Bali, use the visa on arrival if your passport is on its list.[1, 2, 3]
