Who we are

Your data
The Site has no accounts, sign-up forms or advertising, and it uses analytics cookies only if you accept them. We do not sell personal data, and we email you only to reply when you write to us.
- When you visit. Our hosting provider processes the technical data needed to deliver the Site and keep it secure, such as your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. It keeps this data only for a short period, under its own terms.
- When you email us. We receive your email address, your message and anything you attach, through the email service that forwards it and the one that holds our mailbox. We use it only to reply, and to make and record any correction you report. We keep it only as long as that takes, and keep a record of a correction for as long as the correction is listed.
- Visit counts, without cookies. Vercel Web Analytics, from our hosting provider Vercel, counts how the Site is used: the page you open, the page you came from, your country, region and city, your device type, operating system and browser, and the time. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device; it tells visits apart by a code made from your request, which it discards after 24 hours, and we see only totals. We remove anything after a
?in the page address, such as a search term, before it is sent. Choose Reject in the cookie bar, or later in Cookie settings in the footer, and it stops counting your visits. - Page speed, without cookies. Vercel Speed Insights, also from Vercel, measures how fast each page loads and responds for you: timings such as when the main content appears, with the page address and your device type and connection speed. It sets no cookies, and we see only totals per page. It drops anything after a
?in the address too, and Reject stops it in the same way. - Google Analytics, only if you accept. If you choose Accept in the cookie bar, Google Analytics counts how the Site is used: the pages you open, your approximate location (country or city), your device and browser type, and how you arrived. It sets its own cookies, whose names start
_ga, which last up to two years, and Google keeps the visit data for two months. Google signals and advertising features are off, and Google processes the data for us under its data processing terms. If you choose Reject, or make no choice, Google Analytics does not load. Change your mind at any time with Cookie settings in the footer; withdrawing deletes the analytics cookies. - Your cookie choice. The Site stores your Accept or Reject in one cookie,
ba_consent, for six months, so the bar does not ask again on every page. - Your currency choice. If you pick a currency for prices, your own browser stores that choice. It is never sent to us.
We rely on your consent for Google Analytics, and on our legitimate interests in counting visits without cookies, running a secure website and in answering the people who write to us. Our providers act on our instructions and some process data outside the UK, under the safeguards their data processing terms provide.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it, erase it, restrict its use, or stop using it. Write to hello@balianswered.com; we answer within one month. You can withdraw consent to Google Analytics, or object to the visit counts, at any time through Cookie settings in the footer.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would welcome the chance to put it right first.
