Short answer

Uluwatu Temple and its sunset kecak show are separate tickets, about IDR 60,000 and IDR 150,000 for an adult, so budget IDR 210,000 (about AUD 17) for both. Book the show a few days ahead, or join the queue from 14:00.[1, 2, 3, 6]

What are the things to do in Uluwatu, and what do they cost?

Most visitors come for the clifftop temple, the sunset kecak dance and three beaches: Padang Padang, Bingin and Melasti. The temple and the show are the two tickets that add up, while the beaches cost IDR 0 to 15,000 an adult.[1, 2, 7, 8, 9]

How much is Uluwatu Temple, and when is it open?

Entry to Uluwatu Temple (Pura Luhur Uluwatu) is IDR 60,000 for a foreign adult and IDR 40,000 for a child aged 4 to 12. It is open 07:00 to 19:00, and you should arrive before 18:00 to buy your ticket.[1]

Cars may not head west on Jalan Uluwatu towards the temple from the Baler Setra junction in Pecatu, from the afternoon until 22:00 WITA. Motorcycles can, and Badung made the scheme permanent in July 2026.[16]

You must wear a sarong and sash inside the temple, and both are provided at the entrance. The resident monkeys grab hats, jewellery and other loose things, so stow them and keep your phone in a zipped bag. Do not feed or touch the monkeys.[17, 18]

Pay at the gate counter in cash, because card and QRIS (Indonesia's national QR payment code) are not always accepted. The kecak show is a separate ticket, so the temple entry never covers it.[1, 2]

Officers from the Tourism Office checked Bali tourist levy vouchers at Uluwatu Temple in March 2025.[4]

Our rule

Bring cash and your levy voucher to the gate, and put anything loose in a zipped bag.

Officers checked vouchers here in March 2025, and the monkeys go for anything loose.

What time is the Uluwatu kecak dance, and how much is it?

The kecak fire dance costs about IDR 150,000 an adult, on top of temple entry. The sunset show starts at about 18:00 and runs about an hour, and a 19:00 show is also listed.[2]

The ticket booth is at the amphitheatre entrance, inside the temple gate, so you pay temple entry first.[2]

Pay the face value of IDR 150,000 at the booth or online, since the price can vary widely depending on where you book.[3]

Book ahead for the sunset show: tickets at the booth can be hard to get at weekends and in peak season, and the queue can start from 14:00.[2, 6]

Sit slightly left for views of the temple. Late arrivals sit in the very top rows.[6]

Our rule

Pack a cushion and a rain layer for the stone seats.

The seating area has no cover, and an hour on hard stone is long.

How do you get back from Uluwatu Temple at night?

With a driver you booked ahead: after the show, app pick-ups at the temple car park are often restricted and a long wait is common. How to get to Uluwatu has the pickup points and the evening car scheme.[2, 5, 6]

Which Uluwatu beach should you visit: Padang Padang, Bingin or Melasti?

Pick by the way down: Padang Padang and Bingin are reached by steps, and Melasti by a paved road.[7, 8, 9]

Padang PadangAbout 120 narrow stepsLow tide means more beach2,000 for a scooter
BinginSteep steps, 5 to 10 minutesMid tide; high tide shrinks itSmall clifftop fee
Melasti (2024 fees)Paved, winding road—2,000 bike, 5,000 car

Bingin's most reliable stretch for sun and surf is April to October, and Melasti's fees date from 2024, so check the gate board.[8, 9]

Our rule

Plan for low tide at Padang Padang and mid tide at Bingin, and carry cash.

High tide reduces the space on both.

Can you surf at Uluwatu?

Yes, but the main breaks are for experienced surfers. Uluwatu's own break at Suluban has powerful waves for intermediate to expert surfers, and Bingin's hollow, fast waves suit confident ones.[10]

Padang Padang's main break is for experienced surfers, but a smaller side is gentler for beginners. Impossible Beach has long, consistent waves, reached by a steep path. Swell is consistent almost all year, and Suluban is reached by stairs between the cliffs and past a cave. Lessons run as daily sessions or three- to five-day packages.[10]

Our rule

Beginners should stay on Padang Padang's smaller side or take a lesson.

The other breaks punish a wrong turn.

Which Uluwatu beach clubs can you visit, and what do they cost?

In October 2026, beach clubs here ran from a day pass of IDR 800,000 for an adult to VIP seats of IDR 22 million, and only one of those in the table admits children; the others are 21 and over or adults only. Some publish no prices at all.[11, 12, 14, 19]

At one club, tickets for the 4 December 2026 event are non-refundable and non-upgradeable, and entry is 21 and over with ID. Tickets go through the club's ticket link.[13, 19]

Our rule

Check a club's age rule and ticket route before you go.

The facts in the table are each club's own published terms.

What is there to do in Uluwatu with kids?

Children pay less at the temple and Padang Padang (see the table above). One beach club sells a child's pass for ages 5 to 11 at IDR 400,000; the others are 21 and over or adults only.[11, 14, 19]

The steps are the hard part: Padang Padang is about 120 narrow ones and Bingin's are steep, so neither suits a pushchair. Melasti is reached by a paved, winding road.[7, 8, 9]

What is there to do in Uluwatu at night?

The kecak is an early-evening show, so the night is mostly the beach clubs, whose hours are in the table above. App cars thin out after midnight near the beach clubs, so book your ride back first, as the section on getting back explains.[5]
