In detail
What are the things to do in Ubud, and what do they cost?
Ubud's main sights are the Sacred Monkey Forest, the palace and art market in the centre, the Campuhan Ridge Walk, and Tirta Empul, Goa Gajah and Tegallalang outside it. The first table gives the Monkey Forest and Tirta Empul; the second gives the rest, with the Legong dance and the Jatiluwih day trip.[1, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 17]

How much is the Ubud Monkey Forest, and what are the rules?
The Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary in Padangtegal charges IDR 130,000 for an adult and IDR 100,000 for a child, with one price and no separate rate by nationality. It is open 09:00 to 18:00 daily, and the last entry is 17:00.[1]

Food and drink are not allowed, and neither are plastic bags; lockers in the lobby hold them. Keep small items such as toys, jewellery and beads out of sight, and carry nothing that looks like food, peanuts included.[2]
If a monkey bites or scratches you, wash the wound with soap and running water for at least 15 minutes. Then go straight to the sanctuary's first-aid clinic.[2, 4]
For the vaccine, phone the clinic ahead, and go on to another if it has none: stock can run out at the clinic nearest a busy site such as the Monkey Forest. Read what to do after a rabies exposure.[3]
Is Ubud Palace worth visiting?
By day, yes, if you have 15 to 30 minutes: the public courtyards and gardens of the palace (Puri Saren Agung) are free, open 08:00 to 18:00, and no sarong is needed. Wear modest clothing. The evening Legong dance is a separate ticket; see the night section below.[11]
What are the Ubud Art Market hours?
The Ubud Art Market is free to walk through, and the stated hours are 09:00 to 17:00. Treat that as a guide, because some stalls stay open later and others open earlier.[12]
Go in late morning or early afternoon, when the stalls are set up and the crowds have not peaked. Prices are rarely fixed: opening prices are inflated for tourists and can fall by half or more, so start low, stay friendly and bring cash in small notes. In August 2026 a scooter parked for about IDR 2,000 and a car for IDR 10,000.[12]
Is the Campuhan Ridge Walk free, and when should you go?
The Campuhan Ridge Walk is free to enter and open all day. It is about 2 km and takes 1 to 2 hours there and back.[13]
Go just after sunrise or in the late afternoon and skip midday, because there is little shade. There is no lighting on the trail, so be off it by dusk. April to October gives the best chance of clear skies.[13]
How much is Tegallalang rice terrace, and are the swings extra?
Tegallalang has no gate. You pay donations at booths along the paths, likely IDR 15,000 to 20,000 a person at the entry points, and IDR 10,000 to 50,000 more for deeper paths or photo spots; the swings are separate, charged by the operators.[14]

| Item | Price | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Entry donation booth | 15,000 to 20,000 | A person, at entry points |
| Some managed areas | 10,000 to 20,000 | Passing through |
| Deeper paths or photo spots | 10,000 to 50,000 more | Varies by booth |
| Swing | 250,000 to 400,000 | Each |
| Dress hire | 150,000 to 250,000 | Some swings include one |
| Parking | 5,000 scooter, 10,000 car | Roadside lots |
Cafes and swings open about 08:00 to 09:00, but the best light and the thinnest crowds are 06:00 to 08:30, or late afternoon, 15:30 to 17:30. Avoid 09:00 to 15:00, when the crowds and heat peak. A full loop takes 30 to 60 minutes.[14]
Our rule
Carry small notes for the booths, and price a swing before you queue.
Booths cost IDR 15,000 to 20,000 a person and a swing IDR 250,000 to 400,000, so swings dominate the bill.
How much is Tirta Empul, and what do you wear?
Tirta Empul temple costs IDR 75,000 for an adult and IDR 50,000 for a child aged 5 to 12, and children under 5 are free. These are the latest published fees, from January 2025; check the board at the booth. It is open 08:00 to 18:00 daily.[9]

How much is Goa Gajah?
Goa Gajah, the Elephant Cave temple at Bedulu, costs IDR 50,000 for an adult and IDR 25,000 for a child, paid at the site by cash or card. It is open 08:00 to 18:00, and if you enter before 18:00 you can stay until 19:00.[15]

The sarong and sash are included in the fee. Allow 45 minutes to an hour, and expect many stairs and a narrow, dark cave.[15]
Which waterfalls near Ubud can you visit, and what do they cost?
Tegenungan and Tibumana are both a short drive from Ubud, and each costs about IDR 25,000 to 30,000 a person.
Tegenungan is about 7 to 10 km from Ubud, 20 to 30 minutes by car. An adult pays IDR 30,000 and a child aged 5 to 9 IDR 15,000, from about 06:30 to 18:30. Concrete steps lead down, and the climb back is tiring. Swim only in the marked areas, and not after heavy rain.[5]
Tibumana is roughly 30 to 45 minutes from Ubud and costs about IDR 25,000 a person, from 06:00 to 18:00. Swim in the calmer, shallower water, never directly under the falls.[6]
Our rule
Stay out of the water at either fall after heavy rain.
The current under a fall is the danger, not the pool.
What does a yoga class in Ubud cost?
A drop-in class costs about IDR 150,000 to 165,000. Intuitive Flow in Penestanan charges IDR 150,000.[7]
At Ubud Yoga Centre a drop-in is IDR 165,000, and a 10-class pass, valid 30 days, is IDR 1.3 million.[8]
Our rule
Buy a class pass if you will practise more than seven times in a month.
Ten classes on the pass cost less than eight drop-ins.
What is there to do in Ubud at night?
The night plan is the Legong dance at Ubud Palace: IDR 100,000 a person, starting about 19:30 and running about an hour. Seating is open.[11]
Tickets are sold at the palace entrance in the afternoon and by sellers nearby; buy early in the busy season. Most other sights close by 18:00, so the evening is for the dance and dinner.[1, 9, 11]
Our rule
Be there 30 minutes before the start.
Seating is open, so early arrivals choose their seat.
Is there a beach in Ubud?
No. Ubud is inland, about an hour's drive from the nearest beach; the Ubud guide compares it with the coast.[16]
What is there to do in Ubud with kids?
Children pay less at the Monkey Forest, Tirta Empul and Goa Gajah (see the tables above), and the Monkey Forest has no toddler rule beyond keeping children close. Food and plastic bags stay in a locker, which matters with snack-carrying small children.[1, 2, 9, 15]
Stairs are the hard part. Tegallalang's paths are narrow, with steep uneven steps, and are not pushchair-friendly; toddlers may need carrying. Goa Gajah has many stairs and a narrow, dark cave.[14, 15] Which part of Ubud suits families is on where to stay in Ubud.
What day trips can you take from Ubud?
A day trip from Ubud is the Mount Batur sunrise trek, with its fees and pick-up in the Mount Batur sunrise trek guide. Another is Jatiluwih, a UNESCO World Heritage site of rice terraces about 40 km and 1.5 hours away, which costs IDR 100,000 a person, paid in cash at the booth with no cards. Go in the dry season, April to October, and early in the day.[17]
