Short answer

Bali follows the national 2027 calendar: 18 public holidays and 8 collective leave days. Nyepi (Balinese Day of Silence) on 8 March starts a run of days off that lasts to 15 March, so do immigration and bank errands before it.[1]

Which days are public holidays in Bali in 2027?

Bali takes the national list: 18 public holidays and 8 collective leave days (cuti bersama), a day off for civil servants while private employers decide. Eleven of the 18 holidays fall on a Monday to Friday, so with the 8 leave days there are 19 working days that may be closed, our count.[1]

Civil servants lose a day of annual leave for each collective leave day, and a private business may stay open.[1]

Will the Idulfitri and Iduladha dates change in 2027?

They might. The start of Ramadan, Idulfitri and Iduladha are fixed later by a decision of the Minister of Religious Affairs, so 10 and 11 March and 17 May are the planned dates, and may move by a day. Book only changeable flights and appointments for 9 to 15 March until the ministry confirms Idulfitri.[1, 2]

What closes in Bali on a public holiday?

Immigration offices and bank branches are the places to plan around, while hospitals, utilities and transport keep staff on duty.[1]

Immigration offices closed for the whole of both recent Idulfitri runs: across Indonesia from 19 to 25 April 2023, and from 18 to 24 March 2026. The airport and seaport arrival and departure areas stayed open 24 hours, visa on arrival included, although flights stopped for 24 hours on Nyepi, 19 to 20 March 2026. In 2023 the electronic visa on arrival and visit visa applications kept running online. In 2026 the e-Visa portal was closed too, and applicants were told to finish before 17 March.[3, 4, 8]

For a one-day holiday, check the office's own announcement before you go. For a visa extension, see the visa extension guide.

Banks are mixed. In the Iduladha 2025 holiday BCA and BRI closed their branches, BNI opened 20 outlets for two hours, and ATMs and mobile banking stayed on. Bank Indonesia stopped its large-value transfer and clearing systems in the 2023 and 2026 Idulfitri weeks, while its instant BI-FAST transfers kept running.[5, 6, 7]

Shops, restaurants and sights in the resort areas mostly stay open, even on Galungan, though many guides and drivers take a couple of days off. Small local businesses close more often. Three days after Idulfitri 2026, many warungs, kiosks and street stalls in Denpasar were still shut while their owners were away. Nyepi is the exception: malls and tourist sites close, and in 2026 no land, sea or air transport ran for 24 hours.[12, 13, 14, 15]

Our rule

Do your office and bank errands before a holiday run starts.

A closure can last a week, as it did in 2026.

What closes in Bali from Nyepi to Idulfitri in March 2027?

Nyepi falls on Monday 8 March 2027, and the days after it are leave and the Idulfitri holiday: Tuesday 9 March (leave), Wednesday 10 and Thursday 11 March (Idulfitri), Friday 12 March (leave), then the weekend and Monday 15 March (leave). With the weekend before Nyepi, the break runs from Saturday 6 March to Monday 15 March, up to 10 days.[1, 2]

The airport closed for 24 hours on Nyepi in 2026, from 19 to 20 March, and a 2027 notice is not out yet; sources differ on the day, see Conflicts. The rules for 2027 are in the Nyepi 2027 guide.[8]

The 2026 pattern points to a long closure of immigration offices: they closed from 18 to 24 March 2026. Treat a similar closure in 2027 as likely, not as a set date.[3]

8 MarchMonNyepi; the airport closed in 2026
9 to 12 MarchTue to FriLeave and Idulfitri: offices likely closed, travel busy

If your visa on arrival extension falls in the run, finish both the payment and the office visit by Friday 5 March 2027, the last ordinary working day before Nyepi. A KITAS (limited stay permit) appointment follows the same rule. See the visa extension guide and living in Bali for the rules that apply to you.

When are Galungan, Kuningan, Saraswati and Pagerwesi in 2027?

Galungan is expected on Wednesday 13 January and Wednesday 11 August 2027, and Kuningan, the Balinese holy day ten days after it, on Saturday 23 January and Saturday 21 August. These are Balinese holy days, not national holidays, and Bali confirms them each year in a Governor's circular, so treat the table as expected dates until then.[9]

Each of the four holy days returns every 210 days. Galungan 2026 fell on Wednesday 17 June, and Kuningan, ten days later, on Saturday 27 June. Saraswati fell on 4 April and 31 October 2026, and Pagerwesi four days after it, on 8 April and 4 November. Adding 210 days gives the table.[10, 11, 12]

These holy days close no national offices. In 2026 Hindu civil servants, soldiers and police could take them off at their agency's discretion.[11]

FAQ

Is Galungan a national holiday?

No. Nyepi is the only Hindu holy day among the national 2027 holidays. Galungan and Kuningan are Balinese holy days, confirmed each year by the Governor's circular.[1, 11]

Do holidays that fall on a weekend move to Monday?

No. Each holiday stays on its own date, with no substitute day. Seven of the 18 fall on a Saturday or Sunday.[1]
